STYLE FILES // MIMI.
Meet Mimi | Model / Blogger | Sydney
1. Please introduce yourself: Name / Age / Occupation
Mimi Elashiry, 18, model/blogger + working at Camilla
2. Where are you from? (heritage and current city of residence)
My father is Egyptian- both parents are Egyptian diplomats. My mother is 6th generation Australian, with Scottish and Irish roots. I was born in Murwullimbah (north NSW) and then lived in Egypt for 2 years, Hong Kong for one year and then grew up on the east coast of Sydney. My mother has moved to The Gold Coast, and my boyfriend lives in noosa- so I spend a fair bit of time traveling up and down the coast.
3. Describe your style…
My style is heavily influences by the chilled out cruisy coastal lifestyle I enjoy when I escape Sydney. Trips to Byron, noosa and the Gold Coast where I can just loose myself in nature. I really love to support handmade and local brands, and I won’t happily wear anything uncomfortable- no matter how fancy it is.
4. Where do you shop? (online, at the markets, favourite stores)
I tend to shop at markets. I really love vintage clothing. It’s the only type of clothing I’ll spend money on. My favorite markets are Bangalow markets, The Village Markets in Burleigh, Glebe markets and Eumundi markets. Recently I’ve purchased a whole bunch of clothing from my friends shop on Oxford st- storeroom vintage. It’s amazing.
5. What’s in your Itunes ‘recently added’ playlist?
My recently added songs aren’t very new- my iTunes is busted. But anyway… It’s filled with 3 of my absolute favorite bands- all young and new creative talents. Ocean alley, Tora and Jagwa Ma. I think there’s some Earl sweatshirt in there too.
6. What films genres are you into? What are your top 3 all time favorite films?
Any movies with a lot of action, blood & guts, drugs, violence… That sorta stuff I guess. My absolute all time favorite move is Savages. I’ve recently seen Wolf of Wall Street, that’s pretty rad…. I love the Pirates of the Caribbean movies too. Oh, And Pixar films…I’m weird.
7. What are you reading at the moment?
I always carry my Hippies in the city book with me everywhere- I can’t even describe how amazeballs it is, one of those mind, body, spirit things… I just need it all the time.
8. Tell us about your hobbies…
I’ve been a dancer for 13 years so that’s definately one of my hobbies. I love the way it feels and the freedom it gives me. I also love going surfing – I’m not very good, but I’d still sit out in the surf all day with my boyfriend and keep trying. I just love being surrounded by nature. Being out in the open ocean especially somewhere like noosa or Byron is somewhere I would teleport to at almost any time. Looovvve. I also love creating little macrame or crochet crystal basket, hanging, dingle-dangle things you hang in your car. I make them for all my friends oh and I love film cameras. Yum.
9. What’s your staple item (clothing)?
I have a beautiful handmade macrame Clear Quartz crystal necklace that I never ever really take off.. Except for when I sleep. My friend From Byron has her own little label- Azura Jewellery and she made it for me. I don’t know why but it holds some sort of special something… And it’s just like a magnet to my chest when I wake up.
10. Are you an accessories person? If so, what kind? Watches? Jewellery? Hats?
Hmm accessories yes. My fingers are always drowned in giant crystal rings- so heavy that I get cramps sometimes. But I love them. Also if my hair isn’t up in a top knot I always have my Fallen Broken Street hat on.
11. How do you think your city/home has influenced your style?
Spending time up the coast, in Byron and noosa and the gold coast. Just chilling out and being surrounded by nature and chilled out vibes had influenced my style. A lot.
12. What style advice have you inherited from your mum/dad?
My dad- nothing haha. My mum went to fashion school in Tokyo for 6 years. And worked in the industry over there. From when I was tiny I was always dressed head to toe in DKNY, Notila pocket or Hysterical Baby. Mum definitely kept me looking stylish all the time. I can remember putting up lots of fights about my outfits. But I look back on it now, and whether it was about not cutting my hair or not wearing a skater hat… I should have always listened to mum.
13. Who are you following on instagram? (top 5)
I follow cute animals on Instagram. Animals make me so excited. I follow this guy called @jmarcoz who breeds English bulldogs. They’re so fat and cute I just wanna smoosh them all. Also I’m not sure how I found it but I follow @darcytheflyinghedgehog, a really cute tiny albino hedge hog. I follow about 30 different cats and some bloggers but I don’t pay much attention to them. I use Instagram to see what funny things my friends are up to- not stalk strangers. I do my own thing.
