Meet Nahal | 19 | Dancer | Sydney

1. Please introduce yourself
Nahal Donyadideh, 19, dancer.

2. Where are you from?
My whole family is Persian, and I myself am first generation Australian.

3. Describe your style…
My style changes often and I take inspiration from anything I think looks good. This results in a weird mash up of many sub cultures of style. The most accurate way to describe the way I currently dress would be “Hippie goth”, though sometimes opting for simple and classy numbers for places where it’s appropriate.

4. Where do you shop?
I mainly do most of my shopping online. A brand that I’m absolutely adoring (and spending most of my money on) at the moment is Rat and Boa. There isn’t a single item of clothing in that online store that I wouldn’t happily wear out every day! Festival market places have awesome one offs, and mostly handmade clothes that I absolutely love so I spend heaps of money on clothes there. Other than that, I have a variety of different brands crowding my closet, mostly from stores like American Apparel, UNIF, DollsKill and online market place Etsy.

5. What’s in your iTunes ‘recently added’ playlist?
It’s kind of embarrassing, but I absolutely go off for Miley. I’ve been twerqin to Bangerz on repeat for weeks. Other than that you can find a lot of psytrance in my iTunes library, and swing house which is a genre I only discovered recently.

6. What films genres are you into? What are your top 3 all time favourite films?
I loveeee psychological thrillers and horror films. My three favourite movies of all time are: Repo! The Genetic Opera, Hard Candy, and Silent Hill.

7. What are you reading at the moment?
At the moment I’m reading ‘The Casual Vacancy’ by J.K Rowling, and ‘DMT: The Spirit Molecule’ by Rick Strassman

8. Tell us about your hobbies…
My hobbies include sleeping…a lot (leave me unattended and I will sleep for the entire day), naps, Gelato Messina, attending raves, and seeing my favourite people.

9. What’s your staple item (clothing)? What do you take out the door with you every day?
I can’t leave the house without my leather backpack. It’s from Sportsgirl and I find that it is suitable for any occasion, whether it be night, day, or to work.

10. Are you an accessories person? If so, what kind? Watches? Jewellery? Hats?
I can’t go anywhere without my Rose Quartz gold pendant necklace that someone very important to me gave me as a gift, and I also wear my rings everyday. My favourites are the real silver rings I got from Bazar-e-vakil, an ancient market place in Iran

11. How do you think your city/home has influenced your style?
Sydney is such a huge hub of rapidly changing styles. You can go from suburb to suburb and find that the people in them dress completely differently and have their own unique way of expressing themselves. Because of this, I feel totally comfortable wearing what I feel like. It’s such a great city where people vibe and draw inspiration off the people they hang out with.
